Well it looks like winter is just around the corner here in Morzine. “Good-Bye” Autumn and “Hello” to Winter. Snow is forecast – heavy snow on Wednesday- and freezing levels are dropping below 1000m. Which means snow in Morzine town and shed loads of snow up in Avoriaz.
Now for the gratuitous “I live in the mountains, isn’t this beautiful” shot…
Mist over Morzine and Nyon this morning
P.S. We only have 3 weeks and Easter week available in our chalets so if you have not booked your winter holiday with us yet then get in touch quickly!

Snow forecast Morzine: History Speaks for Itself

Setting the record straight….FINALLY!
Morzine and the Portes Du Soleil both have an enviable snow record. Their proximity to Mont Blanc and Lac Leman always creates a mini micro-climate which means that the area gets significant snowfall from the start of December through to when the lifts close in late April.
Because most of the lower slopes are soft grassy cow grazing pasture land, depths of 10-20cms are often all that is required to open the snowpistes, compared with higher altitude resorts where a metre or so is needed to cover the large gnarly rocks.
Those in the know have long since discovered that the Northern French Alps have some of the best and consistent snow conditions to be found anywhere across Europe. Over the last few seasons, the Portes du Soleil has had fantastic conditions while at the same time the higher and so called “snow sure” resorts in the south of France have been sorely lacking in snow.
The following article, which I read just this morning thoroughly sums up why some people often miss out on the great snow conditions of Morzine and Portes Du Soliel because they feel “it is too low…”
Thanks to the guys at All Mountain Holidays for providing this Portes Du Soliel Snow Article for an informative and very interesting read…
See you for some crazy Powder this season…Ride on!

Snow predictions for Morzine 2008/2009

Well, summer is definitely over and sat here looking out of the window of our Luxury Chalet The Loft, I cant help but visualise the Morzine Pleney Slopes covered in snow. It wouldn’t surprise me if we had a splattering within the next couple of weeks, especially up in Avoriaz. It is bitterly cold all of a sudden!
Everyone is talking about the snow forecast for this winter for skiing and snowboarding – the old locals in Morzine say it is going to be an EPIC season …so we have been told!
You can’t argue with the local Morzine Farmers…they say the spiders are coming indoors early this year which means a big winter is on route apparently! Bring it on…
Lets hope we get some more days like this! Click here for a video clip of our Guest…Steve Budd, coming off the back of Chamossiere Powder
