Pass’Portes du Soleil – what’s it all about?
One of the busiest and most popular weekends in the Portes du Soleil calendar is the Pass’Portes weekend. It’s one of More Mountain’s favourite weekends of the year and our luxury chalets, with their bike storage, hot tubs and close proximity to the lifts, are the ideal place to stay for the event. If you’re a keen mountain biker, it’s likely that you’ll know what Pass’Portes is all about already, but for those exploring the world of trail riding – here’s all the info you need to know!
Pass’Portes du Soleil usually marks the official opening of the lifts across the region and falls towards the end of June each year. This year it’s starting on the 24th and running until the 26th of June. Morzine literally goes from ghost town to a buzzing hive of activity with riders from across the world descending on the resort for the event. However, this year, it looks like the lifts will open before Pass’Portes due to the arrival of Crankworx, another famous MTB event, which is coming to Les Gets between the 15th and 19th of June. June will be an amazing month in Morzine!
The route itself is an 80km circular ride around the mountain trails of the Portes du Soleil. You can select to start from different points along the route including Morzine or Les Gets. Most people buy a pass for one of the three days and have a go at riding as much of the route that they can. I’m told that the best bit of the event is the amazing food and refuelling stations that pop up all along the route. With a ticket, you’re entitled to unlimited food and drink including beer, local specialities and of course lots of water!
Team More Mountain usually ride the event on the Sunday, starting from the Super Morzine bubble. Inevitably the group eventually splits off into smaller teams but often reunite at the fuelling stations over a much needed pint! It’s become quite a tradition at More Mountain with people coming back year after year to get involved in the fun. We get a number of tickets that guarantee entry from Morzine which sells out pretty quickly. This year we’re also offering a long weekend special at one of our catered chalets, come and stay and ride with us.
If you fancy a self catered break, we’ll also secure entry for you to the event from Morzine so you’re guaranteed your ticket to ride! Click Here for more info about the long weekend break we have to offer for Passportes 2016 in one of our MTB friendly apartments.
