Skiing In Morzine In December: The Lowdown
Can you ski in Morzine in December? What’s open? Are the buses running? What’s the snow going to be like?
We get these questions every year. So, let’s start with the big one:
Does Morzine Have Snow In December?
The short answer is Yes! Morzine does have snow in December. In fact, Christmas Eve last year was a powder day!
We know that previous years aren’t an indicator of future snowfall however, historically, the first two weeks in December are among some of the snowiest of the season.
One of the benefits of skiing in Morzine is that you have access to the whole Portes du Soleil area, giving you loads more choice than in a stand-alone resort.
Morzine is connected to Avoriaz, which is the highest resort in the Portes du Soleil. It always opens in mid-December, so you can get in a cheeky ski week while everyone else is waiting for the school term to finish!
When Does Everything Open In Morzine?
This is always another big question!
With Avoriaz opening for the season on 12th December and Morzine’s slopes pencilled in for partial opening from the 13th December, there’s always a bit of confusion around when the bars, shops and restaurants in Morzine actually open for Winter.
Opening Week: 12th - 20th December 2025
Ski Area
- The full Avoriaz area opens on Friday 12th December. This includes the Super Morzine and Ardent Telecabines!
- The Linga and Pré La Joux areas of Chatel open on Saturday 13th December, along with the link to Avoriaz.
- The Morzine-Les Gets slopes are scheduled for a partial opening from Saturday 13th December.
Free Ski Buses
- The AU bus will be running all week, linking Pleney with Avoriaz via the Prodains Telecabine.
- As the Ardent Telecabine will be open, we expect the M bus to be running this week too. This bus connects Morzine to Montriond. Keep an eye on our Morzine Buses information page for timetables once confirmed.
Bars & Restaurants
- The legendary Happy Hours bar by the Ardent Telecabine opens Friday 12th December, following up with a season-opening party on 17th December.
- Local brewery, bar and restaurant, Ibex - The Woodyard, reopens for the season on 16th December.
- The Tremplin’s bar, restaurant and apres-ski terrace reopen on Saturday 20th December. At the foot of the Pleney slopes, this is THE place for apres in Morzine and we can’t wait to see what they’ve been up to!
- La Rotonde, L’Improviste, Le Colibiri, Le Crepu, Les Halles, O’Chalet, and several other bars and restaurants will be open too, so you’ll have plenty of choice, whatever you fancy!

What Else Is There To Do In Morzine In December?
One of the reasons that Morzine is a favourite ski destination with our guests is that it’s not a purpose-built ski resort.
If you fancy a day off the slopes, apres with your friends, or other activities to keep the kids entertained, Morzine is full of options on and off the slopes.
