Road Cycling
Road Cycling in the French Alps
Alpine Cycling is at its best in Morzine, Avoriaz. Cyclists love the French Alps for road cycling mainly due to the dramatic scenery and challenging climbs. The months of July and August are the peak season for biking and there is always lots going on in Morzine so the atmosphere in town will be great fun for all you velo enthusiasts!
That being said, don’t discount June and September, which offers some great cycling as it tends to be a little cooler and the roads are generally quieter. The only downside to this time of year is that Morzine itself will also be quieter and has a reduced number of restaurants and bars to frequent. However, this not a problem if you go down the self catering route.
Famous Local Climbs
The Col du Joux Plane was made famous by the exploits of the Tour de France riders which is literally on the door step and rises up within minutes of leaving the centre of town. There are many other famous climbs in the area; Col de la Ramaz, Col de la Joux Verte and the Col de la Colombiere, as well as many less well known but equally demanding ascents.
During Summer 2025 you have the opportunity to ride some of these amazing cols traffic-free! Every Tuesday morning between 1st July and 26th August, one col will be closed to traffic between 09:00 and 12:00 as part of Haute-Savoie au Sommet. Full details are on their website.
Road Bike Hire
There are many bike hire shops in Morzine town where you can hire a wide range of bikes from downhill rigs to carbon frame road bikes. Our staff will be able to advise you which hire shops are best to visit depending on your needs.
For guests looking to hire a top specification and well maintained road bike we recommend Torico Performance Bike Shop and Alps Bike Hire. Their hire service is very popular so it’s worth booking ahead through their website. We also recommend Bike Hire at Intersport Morzine as they have a good range for the whole family.
